April Update: Halfway There and Halfway to Where?

Milestones, markets, and making progress on the mystery

Hey everyone!

While winter's snow still lingers in Saskatchewan, refusing to make way for spring, our writing has been blooming steadily! We've recently crossed some significant milestones and wanted to share both where we've been and where we're headed.

Angie and David heading to their first out-of-town event in 2016.

What We've Been Up To

March closed out with David's birthday. Though he's not one for public celebrations, Angie wants to acknowledge what his partnership has meant: “I wouldn't be an author without him. I'm grateful for his dedication to our last book in the series.”

Crossing the Halfway Line

We've officially passed the halfway point of "Wolfe's Blood"! Thirteen weeks of consistent writing have brought us to this milestone, with David averaging about 600 words per day. The writing continues through Act 3, where the plot is thickening—character revelations, difficult choices, and yes, the occasional farewell to familiar faces.

Things are getting a little easier in this last half. We've got four books of experience behind us, and we've worked out many of the story challenges, making everything run smoother. We know our characters deeply, understand their world, and can weave together storylines that have been years in the making.

The Reading-Writing Dance

Our collaborative process has found its rhythm this past month as well. While David works on new chapters, Angie reads through completed sections, providing both encouragement and critical feedback. She believes good critique means acknowledging both what works well and what needs improvement.

Morning meetings have become a creative highlight, troubleshooting story problems and character motivations. Angie particularly enjoys when David reaches out with specific questions about character names or plot details – small collaborative moments that help build the larger story puzzle.

Out in the World Again

March brought Angie to Swift Current for Write Out Loud, where she read from her solo book "My List, My Rules" at the Lyric Theater. The community was warm and attentive, and the evening had an unexpected musical dimension with a young Turkish musician performing beforehand. These opportunities to share work with new audiences are always special experiences.

What's Coming Up

Getting Back to Markets

We're slowly getting back to markets! You can find us at the North Argyle Community Centre on April 26th. It's been a while, so we're looking forward to reconnecting with readers and building anticipation for "Wolfe's Blood," which we're aiming to release before Christmas.

Planning for Publication

We're also beginning to consider our printing options for "Wolfe's Blood." With changing costs in shipping and production, we're looking at different approaches than we've used for previous books.

Balancing our writing pace with the slow-arriving spring, we're reminded to "be in the moment," as Angie puts it. There's still plenty of story to discover as we move toward completion.

Until next time, happy reading!
