#5 Things: Mar 11, 2017

I know I haven’t been around for a while, so to distract you from this fact, I’m putting up a list of my 5 recent favourite things.

1. Shepherd’s Watch

Of course, I’m going to plug our brand new book coming out next week!!

3. Ulysses

Right now, I’m writing this post on Ulysses. The program has been around for a while but it wasn’t until I got to try it through SetApp that I started messing around with it.

I was looking for a simple notes app but it needed a lot of heavy duty features: I could throw anything into it, works with iCloud, has fully customizable search, and easy export—to start with. Ulysses handles all this and then some.

I couldn’t be happier.

4. Stronglifts

I started using the StrongLifts weightlifting program over a year ago with great results. I moved up quickly in what I was lifting, but the higher the weights got, the more I worried about hurting myself.

I tried it a few more times and eventually quit out of worry, fear, and lack of enthusiasm. As things got heavier, I could feel my form getting worse and the chance of injury increasing. Also, it was so exhausting, I couldn’t convince myself to do it everyday.

However, when I started in January again, I made two significant changes. I quit increasing my weight immediately after have a successful session. Now I do it an my own pace, staying as long as I want at the level I attained. Sure, I am not increasing strength quickly, but I’m going back down every day to do the workout.

As well, I’ve begun to hold myself hostage to the workout. I go down in the morning before I eat and I won’t let myself eat until I’ve finished. I love food, so this has become my biggest motivation

5. Adidas’s Men’s Tiro 15 Training Pants

The space I work out is freezing cold in the winter. Or house is old, the basement isn’t insulate and so it was often a battle just to convince myself not to start lifting in a cold basement.

That all changed why I picked up the Tiro 16 Training Pants. I love, love, love these pants. They are comfortable and flexible, helping me through my deep squats. And considering I checked out several other stores and ended up returning their pricey options, I couldn’t be anything but pleased with this pair I bought.

I can’t wait until we get some clear sidewalks so that I can take them out running on a cold spring day.
