January Update: New Year, New Chapter
They say it takes 21 days to form a habit. We're just trying to form sentences!
Hey everyone!
Like any good story, a new year brings different perspectives to its opening pages. As we step into 2025, we find ourselves reflecting on both the ritual and routine of fresh starts—from honouring the collective energy of New Year's Eve to embracing the power of tiny, everyday habits.
What We're Doing
Writing by Numbers
Wolfe's Blood is moving forward! These past two weeks have seen real progress, with our word count racing toward 7,000 words. (According to David's spreadsheet calculations, this puts us about eight months from the finish line, but we aim to beat those odds!) Right now, we're rebuilding the story from the original first draft and incorporating new story elements. Every day brings us closer to the finish line (or at least the end of part 1)!
New Horizons
We're excited to spread our wings once we wrap up Charlie and Tony's final adventure. While we don't know exactly what our next project will look like, we're ready to explore new territories beyond teenage detectives. Maybe we'll play more with language and imagery and venture into different genres entirely—the blank page holds endless possibilities.
Looking Back, Looking Forward
2024 was a year of unexpected turns. Through personal challenges (including David's months supporting his sister in BC) and professional triumphs (being chosen to read at Creative Saskatchewan's 10th anniversary and Angie's "My List, My Rules" becoming a finalist in the Whistler Independent Book Awards), we're grateful for every opportunity and the support of our reading community. The positive messages continue to roll in about Angie's book, which is now expanding into e-book format (with whispers of an audiobook in the future).
We each approach the new year differently. Angie honours the collective energy of New Year's Eve with meaningful rituals to welcome fresh beginnings. David focuses on small, consistent habits and regular check-ins to keep moving forward. But together, we share the same goal: telling stories that matter.
While we won't be starting 2025 with millions in lottery winnings (sorry, David's wife!), we are rich in stories to tell and the determination to tell them.
Until next time, happy reading—and Happy New Year!
Angie & David
P.S. David is still hoping for that lottery win, though. New book expenses don't pay themselves! 😉
